RULE UPDATE
RULE UPDATE
Edit: Addition as of August 30th 2023:
The Track Official Committee had a meeting tonight to discuss a recent incident. Please find the following changes…
1) Pro Stock Diesel 4x4. To adopt the rule wording from the PPL Rules and that it be enforced by September 8th 2023. “Axle shields are required. Shield should be .060” thickness steel or aluminum. Shield not to be mounted to axle ends or hubs bolts. A hole may be cut in to allow locking in of hubs.”
2) Amend the new turbo rule below to be:
We would like to have the executive review the previously recommended Cross Bolt rule update and implement ASAP.
All turbocharged engines must have the following.
1) One set of two (2) 1/2" minimum Grade 5 bolts installed in the horizontal portion of the exhaust pipe within two (2) inches of the exhaust flange and within one (1) inch of each other.
OR
2) Two sets of two (2) 3/8" minimum Grade 5 bolts installed in the exhaust pipe as close to the turbo as possible. One set to be installed at 90 degrees to each other and within one (1) inch of each other, and the second set of two (2) 3/8" minimum Grade 5 bolts to be installed at 90 degrees to each other and within one (1) inch of each other and within two (2) inches of the first set of bolts, and not overlapping the first set of bolts. (giving a bolt at every 45 degrees.)
ATTENTION PULLERS: Coming from the Upper Executive and the Track Official Committee… THIS CHANGE WILL BE ENFORCED AT THE BARRIE PULL THIS WEEKEND AND WILL TAKE EFFECT THURSDAY AUGUST 24th. The track official committee have discussed the rule changes that we have seen in NTPA and PPL in the US following this tragic accident. The NTPA & PPL seem to have 2 different solutions for this rule update, and after reading through all the various OTTPA rules, (most of our classes are currently mandated 2 of 3/8" Grade 5 bolts installed at 90 degrees to each other, within 1" of each other, and as close as possible to the exhaust flange), we have come up with the following suggestion to put in place ASAP. "Turbo charged engines must have one set of two (2) ⅜” minimum Grade 5 bolts in the horizontal portion of the exhaust pipe(s) within 2 inches of exhaust flange. Bolts are to be installed at 90 degrees to each other and within one inch of each other. A second set of two ⅜” minimum grade 5 bolts in the horizontal portion of the exhaust pipe(s) within two (2) inches of the first set of bolts. Bolts are to be installed at 90 degrees to each other and are not overlapping the first set of bolts.( ie 45 degrees apart)" Any questions please reach out to info@ottpa.ca and we will get you in contact with the proper representative… Thanks.
